When snow covers Trøndelag, the forests and hills around the lake can be explored on snowshoes, in deep silence. No need to be sporty: if you can walk, you can snowshoe.

On snowshoes, you can go wherever you like: the right to roam applies in winter too. The hills of Strandfjellet begin just above the house. The one rule of etiquette: walk beside the groomed ski tracks, never on them.
The Selbuskogen ski centre, in Selbustrand itself, maintains 75 km of cross-country ski trails, including a 7 km floodlit loop groomed every day, from mid-November to the end of April. Altogether Selbu has some 200 km of groomed trails, whose condition you can check in the SPORET app.
The small Saaslia ski area at Tømra (about twelve minutes by car) has a drag lift open some weekday evenings and on Saturdays. For a larger ski area, Vassfjellet, near Trondheim (about 55 minutes), has seven lifts and rents out equipment.
Selbu has its own BUA, a free sports equipment lending centre, in Mebonden. Tell Laurence what you need before you arrive: she will help you get equipped.
Selbu is far enough north for the northern lights to appear when solar activity is strong: on clear evenings, you can watch for them from the house. They do not show up every night, and never from late May to mid-July, when the sky no longer gets dark.
The road is cleared of snow and parking is free on site, less than two minutes from the main road. Breakfast is served early if you are heading out to ski, and you come back to warm up in the living room, facing the lake.
A question, something in mind? Laurence will answer by message or by phone.
Tell Laurence when you are coming and how many of you there will be: she will reply personally.
